Building Campus and Community Solidarity through Art in Research and Teaching Workshop

Professor of Sociology Andrea Cervantes Gomez’ Humanities Institute Faculty Seminar, titled, “Building Campus and Community Solidarity through Art in Research and Teaching” investigated best practices for teaching community engaged classes that support our community partners. The workshop will help inform best practices for—and growing emphasis on—community-engaged teaching and learning, looking for ways to support community-directed projects in Winston Salem, whether they are restoration, architectural history, or hands-on projects. Interdisciplinary partners for this workshop included Nikki Moore (Art/Architectural History), Brittany Battle (Sociology), Katherine Scott (Psychology), Samanta Ordoñez (Spanish), Kim Worthman (Religious Studies), Lucy Alford (English), Rudy Shepherd (Studio Art/Sculpture), and Molly Kaderka (Studio Art/Painting).
